Unique Flavor Components of Mexican Dishes

Michael (“Mike”) Angeleri functions as a managerial assistant with Eastern Lift Truck Co., Inc., in Maple Shade, New Jersey. An avid traveler and a culinary enthusiast, Michael Angeleri particularly enjoys the cuisine of the Caribbean and Mexico.

Characteristic Mexican flavors are comprised of an array of seasonings that include chili pepper, cumin, and oregano. Distinct from Italian varieties, Mexican oregano is not a “true” variety of the herb and grows as a shrub. Often paired with garlic-, onion-, and tomato-based sauces, it has a delicate yet earthy taste. Cumin provides a toasted and slightly bitter flavor to a number of Mexican sauces and is incorporated alongside oregano and chili peppers in many chili powders.

Another distinctive Mexican flavor, chipotle is created from jalapeno peppers that have been dried and slow smoked. Used in marinades and rubs, chipotle informs the taste of spicy sauces such as adobo. Many Mexican dishes also have hints of sweetness, with this provided via herbs such as anise, cinnamon, and cloves.

Fans Name Grant Williams March Madness' Top Preseason Player

A resident of Moorestown, New Jersey, Michael "Mike" Angeleri has served as a managerial assistant with Eastern Truck Lift since 2014. In this role, he has completed numerous delivery and pick-up runs to distributors throughout the state as well as in Delaware and Pennsylvania. A passionate sports fan, Michael Angeleri enjoys watching college basketball in his free time.

With the NCAA preseason recently wrapping up, the association compiled a bracket similar to March Madness to determine the top-performing player in the country. Sixteen players were selected and ranked for the bracket and fans were asked to vote through the NCAA website for their favorite out of each matchup. The first round of voting saw top-five players Zion Williamson and R. J. Barrett eliminated from competition, while Grant Williams and Juwan Morgan, ranked 13th and 15th, respectively, advanced all the way to the finals.

Williams, a junior with the University of Tennessee, won the final pairing by receiving 57 percent of the vote on social media. Last season, Williams was named SEC Player of the Year after averaging 15.2 points, 6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. Morgan, meanwhile, is a senior with the University of Indiana. Minnesota senior Jordan Murphy, Gonzaga junior Rui Hachimura, and North Carolina senior Luke Maye were among the others included in the bracket.
